What a night… Incredible cars, great people, unforgettable memories! ‘May The Downforce Be With You’ was our third meet for 2016, and we’re pretty confident in saying it was our best event yet. We saw some spectacular cars and experienced unprecedented numbers beyond the capacity of the car park! It was a great way to welcome us back to our home at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre, and we’re left with loads of images to share with you!
The night drew quite a crowd… And we mean a BIG crowd. Look at the SL Hub on the top floor!
The SL Hub is where we stationed our info and merchandise stand, and where you could grab coffee and snacks from ASAP Coffee and Catering. Our merchandise seemed to be a hit – we sold hundreds of our SL stickers and everybody loved our new lanyards so much that they almost sold out! We’re glad Troy was working so hard with the coffee, because we think we consumed the majority of it to keep ourselves alive throughout the night! The Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party were present in their R32 GTR track car, with our local Senate candidate Nathan Green on site. It was great to see some political support for Slow Life!
Throughout the night, we saw many spectacular cars grace the car park. On the top floor, you will have noticed a few feature cars we had arranged for you! These cars rotated in and out throughout the night, so it was constantly changing with many makes and models! These cars included the GU Auto Concepts Rocket Bunny 180SX, an Audi R8, a satin orange wrapped Mercedes C63 AMG, several R34 GTRs, a gorgeous Mazda FD RX7, and this month’s feature car – the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640-4. We loved surprising you with new feature cars popping in throughout the night, and we can’t wait until or next meet to bring you more!
We also saw some other unique rides throughout the night, including a freshly ‘unveiled’ VL Calais with a stunning blue paintjob and this stunning vintage Porsche, which we found resting outside the multi-storey.
It was great to see some American love as well! The iconic Corvette, an SS Camaro, some Mustangs, a retro Chevy truck and the classic Impala. It’s all about diversity at Slow Life, and it was amazing to see cars from all corners of the globe in one place.
The car park got so full that we had to redirect some cars to the adjacent Bunnings car park so that we didn’t have an awkward queue! A massive thanks to those who moved over to Bunnings – it ensured that the night continued to run smoothly. The cruise departed at 9:30pm, and we must extend our thanks to SAPOL for their assistance in traffic management throughout the cruise route! For those unaware – we send our cruise route and departure times to SAPOL well before the event so that they can assist us in smoothly transitioning vehicles from the carpark and to the end point. The cruise route saw us travel to Lobethal via the South-Eastern Freeway and Lobethal Road for a quick rest stop, prior to returning to Westfield Tea Tree Plaza via Gorge Road. Everybody was well behaved on the cruise, and it’s exactly what we want to see from our car community!
Well it’s back to the drawing board for us… We have to plan our next meet now! We’d like to extend our thanks to our friends at YMCA for their generosity with the car parking facilities at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre – we couldn’t have such a great meet location without you! Team SL also extend their thanks to ASAP Coffee & Catering for their ongoing caffeinated support and SAPOL for their cooperation and assistance on our cruises.
See you next month!
