Slowlife Saturdays: Our 2017 Monthly Mega-Meet

Last year, we took on the punniest of puns for our event titles, and themed them around the month’s name. ‘HardJuned’, ‘Julyke My Car Bru?’ and ‘OctoBee-R’ would have to be some of the most cringe-worthy of the lot! We also managed to amass a total of seven of these events which were not classified as mini-meets (the events which we pride ourselves on by giving you less than a day’s notice until the event kicks off).

This year, we aim to deliver you one every month.

‘Slowlife Saturdays’ is the re-branded monthly event which we will be carrying throughout 2017, and we will commit to bringing you one of these every month! This is alongside our other events (Slowlife Sessions, mini-meets and collaborations with other event teams will be additional events) so you’ll always have something to check out on the Slow Life calendar! The event which we’ve regarded as a ‘mega-meet’ (based on its size and the sheer quantity of cars that attend) will deliver not only a social experience for the SA car scene, but will also engage local businesses as vendors or sponsors, provide family-friendly entertainment, and allow the car enthusiasts of Adelaide and the greater SA region to catch a glimpse of some cars which they may not see any other day. We encourage any and all cars to attend regardless of make, model or age. The same applies to people – it doesn’t matter if you’re sixteen or sixty; we embrace all facets of the car scene, and encourage respect to any and every make of car.

Oh, and we encourage doggos too. We even provided snacks and water for our favourite four-legged friends!

Our first Slowlife Saturdays event debuted last Saturday, and boy was it spectacular. Hosted at Adelaide’s home of flat-pack furniture and one dollar hotdogs; IKEA (located next to the Adelaide Airport), the event saw makes and models of cars from every corner of the globe, and from just about every decade of the past century, too! Anything from a (very enthusiastically) bagged Mazda 3 station wagon to a stunning vintage Rolls Royce wedding car (we legitimately think they had literally come straight from a wedding) – it was there. Our photographers didn’t know where to look, because there were so many cars to capture, but so little time until the serene sunset setting we enjoyed would wither into darkness as the Saturday evening drew on. The weather had been questionable throughout the day (a forecast of a whopping 1mm of rain had potential attendees questioning whether or not to pry their cars from their undercover parking spaces), and brave the horrid weather to the meet. Much to our luck and delight, the weather cleared up to give us a striking sunset with light clouds, which worked well in the favour of local photographers! The rain finally hit upon the departure of the cruise to the Churchill Centre. Perfect timing, right?

We also assisted in raising funds for Foodbank SA! Foodbank is the largest hunger relief organisation in South Australia. Last year alone, Foodbank South Australia provided enough food for more than 3,400,000 meals, and this is why they’re our nominated charity of choice for Slowlife Saturdays. We had representatives from Foodbank SA walking around with the Slowlife Girls with some donation buckets, which amassed nearly $100. We’ll have Foodbank joining us again for our next meet so that we can continue our efforts towards their fantastic cause.

An aspect of Slowlife Saturdays which we’re really excited about is the introduction of a monthly celebration of a particular make and model of car. Our first event featured the ‘GT-R Arena’; a celebration of Nissan’s iconic performance car. A congregation of twenty-two R32, R33, R34 and current GT-R models saw Nissan fans and other meet attendees almost weep with excitement. Each and every month, we’ll be celebrating a different make and model, and we’re always open to suggestions as to which makes and models this could be!

We also love to get interactive about these events. Alongside our current #slowlifeau hashtag, we’ve introduced the #slsaturdays hashtag for use on Instagram. If you’ve snapped a pic, re-posting memories, or just chatting about the event in general, we want you to use this tag! We see all the posts with the tag, and we love to engage with you online and get everybody talking. The only way to spread the word about these events is if we get interactive!

The next event is already online, and is scheduled for Saturday March 18th. You can find the event linked here! We really can’t wait to see you down there, and introduce you to a new array of feature cars, bikes and businesses. The features of our next event will be revealed in the weeks ahead, but in the meantime, get your car ready and prepare for a night out with friends to socialise about all things car-related!

We’ll see you in March, Adelaide!
