- A congregation of South Australia’s most unique, rare and stunning vehicles.
- An awe-inspiring McLaren Vale sunset.
- Juicy, hand-crafted, mouth-watering, hunger-intensifying gourmet burgers.
Hosted on Boxing Day in the secluded and stunning setting of the Penny’s Hill Winery in McLaren Vale; the AGR Burger Meet is an annual event which many local enthusiasts would regard to be one of the premier events of the year for South Australia. This year’s event happened to fall on the same Boxing Day evening as the annual Jaf’s Last Cruise event, which consumed the majority of the Adelaide car community. However, this event is a shining example of the meaning of the term ‘quality over quantity’.
The vehicle diversity was jaw-dropping. Japanese, European, American, Australian. Vintage, classic, modern. Stock spec, street spec, track spec. To list the cars that we saw on this day would make for one of the longest articles you’d ever read in your life, so check out the gallery at the bottom of the article for some examples!
Team SL were torn between attending this event and the Jaf’s Last Cruise event at Tea Tree Plaza, so we decided to split into two groups. It’s safe to say that those of us who traveled to McLaren Vale were not disappointed in the slightest! The weather had seen some rainfall throughout Adelaide earlier in the day, but we were blessed with glorious sunshine for the majority of our time in McLaren Vale. The day’s stormy weather had surpassed the wine region; leaving us with only some minor drizzles in the late afternoon. The sunset was spectacular, and made for some incredible shots! We couldn’t resist getting our cameras out to capture the array of incredible cars and bikes in attendance.
We almost forgot that this event is called a ‘burger meet’. These burgers were worth the trip. Prepared with only the best beef and pulled pork courtesy of Ellis Butchers and prepared by chef Tom Boden, the food was sensational, and accompanied the wonderful atmosphere with sheer perfection.
Drinks-wise; beer by Swell Brewing Co. and wine from The Black Chook were on offer (plus non-alcoholic options for those of us behind the wheel), and the summer heat was brought back down to earth with Sunshine Ice Blocks providing some afternoon refreshment.
The connection between fine food, beer, wine and the automotive culture created an atmosphere unlike any other you’ll be able to experience in and around South Australia, and it leaves the team yearning for more next year. We were also lucky enough to get our hands on one of a very limited run of posters and stickers celebrating the annual event, which we’ll add to our (small) collection!
Browse the gallery below for examples of some of the spectacular cars that graced the event, and head to our facebook page to check out the full album taken by our photographers. We’d like to extend our thanks to Andrew Coles (Any Given Reason) for bringing this event together for its sixth consecutive year, and we look forward to our cruise to McLaren Vale in late 2017!
